In the middle of an alley, in the worst part of town, a young boy lies motionless on the snow covered stone floor. The boy is not breathing.
It comes as a whisper and echoes repeatedly through what is left of the boy’s consciousness. With it comes awareness. A wave of dulled sensation fills the void of the boy’s mind instantly. His body is numb and paralyzed from the cold. He can feel nothing but the cold.
Thought came to him suddenly and without warning. Fear fills the void, followed by the sudden realization that breathing is important and he wasn’t doing it.
Immediately the boy breathed in. The sudden deep breath of freezing air brought with it a fresh new wave of dulled sensory information. He could feel the paralyzing cold but it is so overwhelming that what little is left of his consciousness starts to slip. He struggles to hold on but there is not much to hold on to.
